The school
Discover the beauty of the Cinque Terre and the charm of Portofino by learning Italian with us.

Nel Blu is located in the historical town centre of Chiavari, in the region of Liguria with its unique and evocative landscape created by the fusion of land and sea. The school is modern and welcoming, and is situated just a few minutes from the beach. We are open all year round and organise group courses for all levels and individual lessons for students, tourists and professionals in order to satisfy our clients’ requirements.

The school is located on the second floor of an attractive Art Nouveau building with characteristic balconies with flowers. The classrooms are bright and spacious, each room is furnished in a different style but all have their own particular ‘marine’ atmosphere. The school uses traditional slate blackboards (slate being local to the area), and has a well-stocked library, tape recorders, a television and DVD player. Students may also enjoy a cup of Italian coffee or a light snack with the teachers during lesson breaks.
All teachers are mother tongue and their competence and professionalism guarantee lessons of the highest quality.

Chiavari
Chiavari is a lively seaside town surrounded by the natural beauty of Mediterranean vegetation, while the deep blue of the sea presents a striking contrast to the soft green of olive and pine trees, creating a truly delightful landscape. It is located in the centre of the Tigullio Gulf on the plain of the River Entella.

The old town centre is characterised by its famous narrow arcaded streets called “Carruggi”, which are lined with elegant and exclusive shops, and where a bustling market is also held every Friday.

Some of Chiavari’s attractions include the tourist port, its private beaches, and the newly-designed promenade with fountains and activities for children.
The town provides the ideal starting point for many excursionist itineraries inland. It is also an active cultural centre with a varied programme of events. Its patron saint is celebrated from 1-3 July with markets, a procession and fireworks launched from a boat. The region of Liguria is famous for its mild climate and long sunny days with the average temperature 24 degrees in summer and 16 in winter.

And the surrounding area
Within easy reach of Chiavari are the Cinque Terre: an unforgettable walk across the stunning cliffs above the sea will take you to the five picturesque villages with pastel-coloured houses, ensconced between the verdant vegetation and the blue sea.

And Portofino - one of nature’s most spectacular sights – the ancient fishing village and symbol of beauty and worldwide exclusivity is renowned for its famous ‘Piazzetta’ where having a coffee or an ice-cream, or taking a stroll is a memorable occasion.

Chiavari’s strategic position also places you within easy reach of some of the most famous cities of artistic beauty in Italy such as Genoa, Florence, Rome, Milan and Pisa.
